CPCS Information & Card Scheme

Prior to the issue of any operators card, all candidates must sit and pass the Environmental
Health and Safety Touch – Screen Test.

Health & Safety (Pro-metric) Touch Screen Test

All new CPCS applicants or when you add an additional category to your operator card, must have a basic understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues. Health & Safety tests must be current and in date. (Completed within the last 24 months).

 

Health and Safety tests can be booked and completed at our centre whilst on course.
(A minimum of 7 days prior notice must be given for test bookings).

Technical Theory Test

Set to test underpinning knowledge and understanding directly related to a CPCS category. The CPCS Theory Test must be answered verbally in a one-to-one session with a CPCS Tester.

(Study material will be provided by on confirmation of course booking).

Site Safety Plus – Health and Safety Awareness
There’s a new Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) Green Card available for people working in labouring occupations. GreenCard
The aim of the Site Safety Plus course is to provides a practical summary of health and safety, welfare and environmental issues identifying individual responsibilities for looking after themselves and others, what the employer’s duties are and what should be done if they think anyone’s health and safety is being put at risk.

Candidates successfully completing the course will receive a CITB Construction Skills Site Safety Plus Health & Safety Awareness certificate valid for 5 years.

CPCS Practical Test

Set to test the ability of the operator through a series of practical activities. This ensures that that operator has the necessary experience, core skills and the technical knowledge to operate the specific category of plant.


(Red) Trained Operators Card

Issued after initial training; it has a two year life span and it is not renewable.
(Upgrade to a Blue Operators Card).

(Blue) Competent Operators Card 

Operators must complete an N/SVQ level 2 in Construction Plant Operations.
It ensures that you are developing and improving on your operating skills to a sufficient level of competence and it has a five year life span.

(Blue) Competent Operators Card  Renewal Test (October 2013)

In order to retain their operators’ card, cardholders will need to pass various modules (Depending on machine groupings). Each module consists of 15 multiple-choice questions. Factsheets are available free-of-charge and can be viewed and downloaded from CPCS website.

One renewal test can include up to five machine categories (Depending on groupings).
If the cardholder is renewing more than five categories, they may need to book an additional test.
